Math

This year Norfolk Public Schools is transitioning to a new math curriculum.  The new curriculum, Envisions 2.0, will replace our Saxon Math curriculum that has been in place since 2011.

EnVisionMATH uses problem-based interactive & visual learning to deepen conceptual understanding. The program is organized into eight math topics. Over time your child will learn to:

Topic 1 - Use Positive Rational Numbers
Topic 2 - Integers & Rational Numbers
Topic 3 - Numeric & Algebraic Expressions
Topic 4 - Represent & Solve Equations and Inequalities
Topic 5 - Understand and Use Ratio & Rate
Topic 6 - Understand and Use Percent
Topic 7 - Solve Area, Surface Area, and Volume Problems
Topic 8 - Display, Describe and Summarize Data

Additional Practice

I am pleased to tell you that we will be using a website called IXL in our classroom this year. IXL is a comprehensive math review site with an unlimited number of practice questions in hundreds of skills—all of which are aligned to state standards. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child's progress!

Please encourage the practice of this program at home! Even a couple of minutes each night can help your sixth grader practice math!  Your child's username and password for IXL are located in their planner.
